Amberley Village was saddened to learn of the passing of former Amberley Police Officer/Firefighter Keith Sowder on Sunday, September 5. Keith was only 41 and was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis while he was employed by the Village. Keith separated from the Village in 2013.
He leaves behind his wife, Brigid and three children, Samuel, Josiah and Evan, ranging in age from 11 to 16 years old. Village employees have assisted Keith over the years with various projects like a handicap ramp for his house, replacing screen doors, shoring up a garage wall and providing certain needs.
Amberley Village Police Sergeant Ryan Shaw remembers, “Keith started with Amberley in 2007 as a full-time police officer and firefighter and worked here until he was forced to medically retire in 2013. He battled a progressive form of multiple sclerosis for the past 10 years. While it broke his body, it did not break his spirit. I visited Keith a month or two ago, and even though he could barely talk, he was still cracking jokes, and giving praise to God! Keith always had our backs in the line of duty, both police and fire. He was a beloved husband to his wife Brig, and beloved father of three boys.”
Amberley Village staff continue to support the Sowder family through this difficult time. Please keep his family in your thoughts and prayers.
