Amberley Village has, as part of its laws and ordinances, a set of regulations that control how people can use the land they own in the village. These laws and regulations are referred to as our Zoning Code. You can find these laws in
Chapter 154 of the Amberley Village Code of Ordinances.
Zoning laws help maintain property value by ensuring that regulations are in place to help create an overall look and feel within Amberley Village.
Builders, land developers, remodeling contractors and architects look to our zoning laws to help guide them when they want to develop land or add improvements to lots that already have houses or buildings on them. For example, let's say you want to build a simple storage shed in your side or back yard. You have to look to the zoning code to see which direction the main door may face and where the shed can be placed upon your lot.
Many things are covered under these laws, including but not limited to, fences, farm animals, carport, room additions, signs, home businesses, building heights, setbacks from property lines, swimming pools, etc.
The Village has five different zoning districts, and each one has a
very specific set of regulations. The five districts are:
- Residence A
- Residence B
- Industrial A
- Industrial B
- Park
If you feel a certain zoning law causes you a hardship, you can apply for a zoning variance. This is a formal process that is officiated by the Board of Zoning Appeals (see Amberley Village Code Section 154.67).
