From Amberley Village
Walking Paths
Walking paths bubbled to the surface again in the 2005 election campaign season. There are strong emotions on both sides of this issue.
There are many diverse groups of residents who strongly favor walking paths in certain areas of the village. These groups include, but are not limited to, those who want a safe way to walk to and from places of worship, people who want ways for children to safely visit the homes of other children in different parts of the village, residents who want safe exercise pathways and others who want pathways that would connect them to French Park and the new Jewish Community Center.
At the same time, there are many who feel walking paths will increase crime, detract from the rural nature of the village and become a costly maintenance item. Emotions from people on both sides of this issue are very strong.
But rarely does everyone in a community agree on any issue. The current Council is in the process of gathering valuable input from all residents who have an interest in this issue. One focus-group session that included residents who live along Section Road was held in the late winter of 2007. Other focus groups that represent those from each of the smaller groups are being planned for August and September of 2007.
