Meeting Minutes
September 19, 2007

In attendance:  Peg Conway (chair), Merrie Stillpass, Mark Roeseler, Jack Monahan, Chuck Kamine, Bernie Boraten, Nancy Moran

Newsletter plans
The fall issue is scheduled to be published around November 1st.  A copy deadline of October 8th was established.  Article ideas were discussed and assignments made.

Ice Cream Social Evaluation
All were in agreement that the event was very successful.  Positive aspects that were noted:

  • Strong attendance
  • Water spray at tennis court
  • Safety activities, esp. child ID and egg/seatbelt demo
  • 9 tables was enough
  • Music and clown
  • Option for multiple helpings of ice cream
  • Effective publicity - timely newsletter article, yard signs, banners
  • Beautification awards presentation

Ideas for changes/improvements next year:

Location of ice cream serving table was too crowded, though it worked well to have the back-up ice cream behind the table.  Consider putting ice cream service at the far end of the fire house.

  • Ice cream had not softened sufficiently and was hard to scoop (first time this has happened).
  • Add a walking magician as entertainment.  Ask the clown is this is one of her services.
  • Re-choreograph beautification awards ceremony.  Need a table.  Unwrap awards in advance.
  • Start the event earlier? Consensus was not to.  7-9 is clearly after dinner, and yard signs are made for re-use.
  • If keep the same time, need lights on the field for departures, esp. of older people.
  • Hire parking attendants.
  • Add a fancy car show.
  • Add a juried art show and/or photo contest.
  • Send a press release ahead of time to the Enquirer and/or Sycamore Living.
  • Offer a table to the JCC for info display.
