History
About Justin and Josephine Rollman

Justin and Josephine Rollman, residents of Avondale at the time, while on a horseback ride to the "country" in 1927, fell in love with the beauty and tranquility of this area. They saw their future property for the first time on a Saturday and bought it the next Wednesday.

Their beautiful, 200-acre property, known as Rollridge Farm, fronted on the east side of Ridge Road. It was a working farm that raised livestock in addition to agricultural products following the tradition of many of the original landowners who switched from general farming and orchards to dairies.

They lived in the penthouse of the Vernon Manor Hotel for two years while their estate was being built. One of the most prominent families to discover the land and live here, the Rollmans were well-established in the community. Both sides of the family bore distinguished pedigrees.

Justin owned the Rollman Department Store in downtown Cincinnati. He was instrumental in bringing the Rollman Psychiatric Institute to prominence here as well. Josephine was royalty whose maternal grandparents were the Archduke and Duchess of Hapsburg (whose shooting deaths precipitated the start of World War I).

Her father was the brother of Sigmund Freud and she was also related to Lord Mountbatten and the Queen of England.
