December 2007 Public Outreach Minutes
Amberley Village Council In attendance: Peg Conway (chair), Merrie Stillpass, Louis Katz, Jon Chaiken, Tim Carter, Chuck Kamine, Fran Cohen Crest Hills Survey The purpose of the meeting was to discuss surveying residents as to how to proceed on the Crest Hills matter in light of the Court of Appeals ruling. The initial thought was to send a letter of explanation ahead of the survey. But Louis had consulted with survey professionals via his wife’s employment, and they recommended that there be only one mailing. With the professionals’ help, Louis had drafted the questions, which the group reviewed and fine-tuned. Chuck had previously drafted a letter that others had subsequently edited. It was agreed that Peg would do final edit on the newest draft. Ensuring the anonymity of each person’s response and that each person only submit one survey were stated as priorities. It was decided that the surveys would be randomly numbered so that they could be checked off upon return. A paper survey was determined to be the best format. It will be tabulated by the Village staff. The survey will be a post card, return postage paid, sent separately to each registered voter, not just to households. A timetable was discussed, taking into account the holidays, to have the results back by Feb. 1, 2008. Peg agreed to coordinate production with Nicole, and Louis was to obtain the voter data on CD from the Board of Elections. Charter Amendment Communication Chuck brought up the matter of communicating to voters about the upcoming charter amendment vote on March 4, 2008, to raise the amount the Village Manager can spend without approval from Council. An article will appear in the winter newsletter, due out approximately Feb. 1. It was decided to send a reminder post card a little closer to the election also. Submitted by |
