AMBERLEY BEAUTIFICATION COMMITTEE MEETING SUMMARY

MEETING DATE: April 28, 2008
                           7:30-9:00 PM; Amberley Village Community Room

PRESENT:  Merrie Stillpass; Jim Kelly; Jane Murphy; Pam Hessler; Steve Rasfeld; Tom Karr; Elaine & Albert Tomasi; Leslie McIntosh; Josephine Rosenblum; Jason Gibbs; Ed Hattenbach; Regina Radin; Jeanette McCarthy


Discussion on Arbor Day Green Up Day activities:
1. Beautification Awards

· Pam will look into reordering the same award for winners
· Yard signs will be distributed to 2007 winners
· Confirm location when this will occur to notify winners
· Ballots for Beautification contest will be on registration table along with poster from last year

2. Raffle prizes
· a soaker hose, compound loppers, digging tool & rain barrel
· Josephine spent $27.74 on great prizes
· Merrie will have registration form reproduced

3. Rain Garden
· Probably not much to do there on 5/4, but can have education component—check with Leslie Cohen, Terra’s asst. for handouts
· Seed delivery expected soon. Will need to re-till and apply coconut matting
· Edge of rain garden will be more natural looking that what’s now visible
· Plant plugs (500 +) not available until after 5/15—will send out email for volunteers to help plant

4. French Park activity
· 1st priority is fence line south of rain garden between Beechlands & Ridge
· Then move toward corner
· If really wet, can mulch & place water bags on street trees along FP & Ridge; remove dead stalks
· Tom will pick up supplies on 5/1. NEED: wheel barrels, pitch forks, shovels, water bags, mulch, litter pickers & bags, loppers. On 5/8: chain saws, truck, shredder (?)

5. Rain Barrel Garden
· Jim & Josephine did an excellent job preparing a planting plan with 6 plants for behind the garage
· Jason will work on the availability of plants or other recommendations i.e.: pampas grass, replacement for butterfly milkweed

6. Other
· Water coolers will be placed strategically at work areas
· NEC mowing schedule will be shifted to fall
· Tom will check damage to AV trees along FP edge
· Review mowing program to include behind the planted streetscape to separate from brush line
· Approx. 60 trees were impacted by joint AV/City Parks removal/pruning program along Section Rd.

5/4/08: Arbor Day/Green-Up Day in Amberley Village

NEXT STEPS: 
Village Hall & Grounds: Master Plan & garden aspects; design rain barrel garden set up special meeting date
Research: review tree protection initiative-pass resolution at council level; conversation with Parks (see above)
Update: tree inventory worksheets—Tom/Staff

Next Meeting: June 23, 2008 AV Community Room, Lower Level, Village Hall
